Hugh C. Hill
« on: Monday 10 January 11 12:53 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,

I have a small problem I hope someone can help me with. My grandfather Alfred Hill had an older brother called Hugh C. Hill b.1872 who appears on the census in 1881 aged 9 in the family home in Astwood Bank/Feckenham Worcestershire (Registration District, Alcester, WARWICKSHIRE). After that date I can find nothing more about him, no marriage or date of death on freebmd and he does not appear (as far as I can see) on the 1891 census though he would have only have been 19 and probably would be expected to be at home.
Can anyone offer any help in tracing what may have happened happened to him?

Managed to get the full details of the marriage.  His parents were Alfred and Helen H Hill, he was born in England and aged 32.  Working as an insurance agent.  Her parents were the Hon RObert Hamiliton and Annie L Miles?.  She was born in Brockville.  They married 18 Oct 1905, Peterborough, Ontario

My father always told me we had relatives in Canada so this could be possible. Do we know if Hugh Cyril Hill was born in Astwood Bank/Feckenham Worcestershire?

Many thanks for the detail and speed of reply!!!

Don't know about where he was born, will look on the canadian census in a mo, but how's your cricket?  According to this website, Hugh Cyril Hill played in 5 international matches between 1897 and 1903! http://historyofcanadiancricket.pbworks.com/w/page/18528275/Who's-Who-of-Canadian-Cricket

One of Hugh's team was apparently a witness to his wedding too......

It's possible that Hugh and Anne came back to the UK at some point - Ancestry has a reference to a death of Anne Seabourne Hamilton-Hill who died July 14 1950, St Stephens Hospital, Fulham.  Only dau of the late Hon. Robert Hamilton of County Down and Peterborough, Canada.  Mother of Donald and Edward.  Memorial service at Holy Trinity, Brompton.

No mention of Hugh though.........

Hows my cricket!!!

All my family are cricketers it's in the blood..
Hugh's other brother was Roland Pretty Hill b1866 a (relatively) famous cartoonist who drew cricket cartoons for the London Evening News around the turn of the century under the name "RIP" He also drew for Players cigarette cards.

A birth registered in Alcester is quite likely to be him.

I cannot believe the level of response from you guys, WOW
