More bits and bobs!

Anne Seabourne Hamilton-Hill boarded at Vigo, bound for Southampton in 1928 on board the Almanzora (travelling first class, natch!)  She is listed as being married, 55, with her last permanent residence being England as is her future permanent residence.  Her address is given as 7 Castletain Road, Maida Vale.

There is a notice in the TImes announcing the forthcoming marriage of Hamilton Donald Hamilton-Hill (now that is a name and a half!) to Mrs Dorothy Wiggly Allix Dease in dec 1939.  Hugh Cyril Hill is mentioned with no caveat to suggest that he is deceased........

More googling!  It appears that Donald Hamilton-HIll was a major player in setting up the SOE during WW2.  According to the Times, he died Jun 6th 1985 in Hampshire, but doesn't give any details of his parents. >:(

Death index on Ancestry lists him as Hamilton Donald Hamilton-HIll, with a birth date of 21 Jun 1901 which ties up with the 1911 census data

Hi

Hugh's father and mother are actually Alfred and Ellen Hill (maiden name Hiam). Is it likely that Ellen could have been mis transcribed as Helen? Although I am new to this, I believe this may be a common problem with records?

Think of someone saying Ellen with a Worcestershire accent and someone used to Canadian accents hearing it!  Ellen and Helen are a very easy mistake to make!

Now, this is where it could get even more bizarre!  Edward Alfred Hamilton-HIll appears to have been a well respected naval Lietenant Commander, receiveing the King Christian Liberty Medal in 1948.  He died in 1979.  He possibly also played for England in Rugby, and I suspect (and am trying to prove now) that he was the father of Deirdre Hamilton-HIll who married and later divorced Corin Redgrave........ :-\

I think looking through the TImes that Edward played for Harlequins for most of the the 1930s, also playing for Surrey and possibly England (1936 match against New Zealand).  From about 1936 there is reference to him playing for the Navy in services matches.  In 1936 he is listed as being from HMS Pembroke.  I think eventually he ends up being stationed out in Malta.  Looks like he has a son born in Malta in 1947.

However, none of this is killing off Hugh Cyril or finding out where he went!  Looking at the death records on Ancestry, as far as my dodgy maths can work out, the most likely death is Hugh C Hill died Swansea in 1950 aged 77.  What he was doing in Swansea I know not!
