Jones: 1871 Census.*completed*
« on: Tuesday 11 January 11 11:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I was wondering if someone can help me locate the where abouts of Owen Jones in the 1871 and 1861 censuses. He was born circa 1853/2 in Towyn Merionithshire. I have located him on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses living in Pennal Village. He died and is buried in Pennal. He died on 7th Sept 1909.
Thank you for your  time and help.

Hi Dave56

No luck yet!!! Do you have their marriage certificate which would give his fathers name and occupation?

There is an Owen Jones on family search b 9 July 1852 c 18 July 1852 Bethesda Independent Towyn Merioneth to a John and Elizabeth, considering they named their first son John???

Regards

:)

Hi Z,
Thanks for helping out like this !
I ordered a marriage certificate going on the names and rough date, but not 100% sure it is right ! Owen Jones father is down as John jones labourer and Mary Evans down as David Evans farmer !date is 1st feb 1876 Solemnized at St Barnabas parish of Pentwyn or Penbryn (can't make out the cursive script !) i'n the county of Carmarthen !
What throws me is Owen seems to be a long way from Merionithshire ! Also the age gap is greater on the certificate between Owen and Mary than on the 1881 census! He's 31  and she's 28! But on the census it's only a 2 year gap
Thanks again for you help
Dave.

Hi Z,
The second but of your post is very encouraging ! John and Elizabeth would seem to fit! My grandfather David Jones , son of Owen and Mary attended a Welsh Congregational Chapel in Narberth in the 1920's so that would definately cut with his father being christened in an Indepdndent Chapel !
Thsnks for hour time and help!
Much appreciated
Dave

Hi Dave56

Considering their first born John was b 1875 Towyn I found this marriage on Free BMD:-

June 1874 Dist: Machynlleth Vol 11b Pg 300 - On the same page Owen Jones and Mary Evans

Machynlleth District will cover the Towyn area.

Therefore if I have understood you correctly you have a marriage for 1876?

Regards

Z :)

Hi Dave56

And the same family in the 1871 census RG10 5602 87 15 - Civil Parish Faenol (Faenol is also a Township included in the Towyn area)

John Jones Head b 1812 Towyn Merionethshire - Labourer
Elizabeth Wife b 1815 Llanfihangel
David Son b 1844 Towyn - Lab
Jane Daugh b 1851 Towyn - Dressmaker
Hugh Son b 1859 Towyn - Scholar

No sign of Owen I'm afraid!!!!! This family appear to be living in the area at the right time that Owen was born, but may I suggest that in order to clarify whether this family is correct or not it may be worth your while obtaining a copy of the marriage certificate for Owen and Mary, especially with their surnames Jones and Evans!!!!

Regards

Z :)
