Bratton

In searching my ancestry, I hit a wall at John Woils Bratton (b. 1814, d 29 Jul 1885 in Dawley, Shrop.).  Bratton lived in Dawley for his whole life (as far as I can see) marrying Priscilla Padget and having nine children with her (Ann, Florence or "Fanny" my ancestor, Henry, William, Martha, Frederick, Mary, Lucy, and Julia).  After Priscilla died in 1859, John Bratton re-married (Ann).  If anyone has information relating to John Bratton or Priscilla Padget or their ancestry, I would appreciate any help you can offer.

I would look to see if the marriage was by licence and if so, get a copy of it. I think Dawley is in Lichfield Diocese, so you would need to send your request to the Lichfield Diocesan Registry.

John gives his birthplace as Madeley, so this may be his baptism on the LDS pilot site http://search.labs.familysearch.org  (His middle name seems to vary a bit on census etc.)

John Wild BRATTON, son of Wm. BRATTON and Mary, baptised 24 April 1814, Madeley.

William and Mary are possibly living in Dawley on the 1851 census:

The cert for John's second marriage would confirm his father's name, but I can't spot it on FreeBMD at the moment...

Thanks, I'll follow that up.  Sometimes it's challenging searching out ancestors prior to 1841 from here in Canada.
