Help tracing missing ancesters please
« on: Thursday 13 January 11 19:27 GMT (UK) »
HI

I wonder if anyone can help me please with regard to my McKenzie/Mackenzie family from Urquhart?

I am looking for information on the following children born to Donald McKenzie & Ann Chisholm who were married 24 Feb 1800, Urquhart, Inverness all born in Urquhart & Glenmoriston:

Catherine 21 Oct 1801 (presumably she died as there was another Catherine born later)
Hugh 15 March 1804
William 5 Aug 1806
Christian  16 May 1809
Catherine  20 Jan 1811
John Peter  28 March 1813 (my direct gt grandfather whom I have successfully tracked except for 1841 census)
Donald 11 Aug 1815
Alexander 31 May 1818
Jane 8 July 1820
Duncan 15 Sept 1822  (I have tracked his history except for 1841 & 1851 census)

The baptisms are from IGI and SP.

Thanks in anticipation ...

Edited to add baptism date for Duncan

Have you checked for deaths on SP with mother's name Chisholm?

A free search gives 3 possibles in Inverness with births 1810+- 10 yrs

Thanks for that Sancti; don't think the deaths are relevant but the 1841 census may be (I had been wondering about this one).

Any more help would be much appreciated.

The deaths are for surname McKenzie with mothers name Chisholm

The problem with following the females is that they would probably be married prior to 1855

I take your point about the females possibly marrying.

The one relating to John is not my John as I already have his death cert from SP from 1878, death in Montrose.

Duncan McKenzie married Elizabeth Yule Creden in Fraserburgh 1856 and I have tracked him in 1861 Banff; 1871 Aberdeenshire; 1881 & 1891 Old Deer, Aberdeenshire to his death in Jan 1899 Old Deer.  What I have found extremely interesting here with this particular couple is that they adopted Catherine Wishart Duthie (born 1874 Montrose) and she appears on the 1891 census as adopted daughter.  Catherine also was the informant on Duncan McKenzie's death cert on SP in 1899.  Catherine Wishart Duthie was the daughter of Robert Duthie & Mary McKenzie, Mary McKenzie being the daughter of John Peter McKenzie & Catherine Wishart (already discussed in previous postings).  So, Duncan McKenzie was in fact (accordingly to my FTM11  the great grant uncle of Catherine Wishart Duthie).

I must admit that this is a difficult family to trace but I wont be beaten yet.

Thanks in anticipation ...

The family seems to have moved outside the Inverness area so it might be worthwhile expanding the death search using the mothers name.

There appears to be 8 in the whole of Scotland with a birth date of 1810 +/- 10yrs but they don't seem to match up to any of my siblings  ???

One thought I have had for a while is that appears to be no "Ann" or none that I have found yet; I find this strange because Ann Chisholm was the mother - do you have any thoughts on that?

Thanks in anticipation ...
