All England Extracted Parish and Court Records Results
« on: Friday 14 January 11 15:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi.
Can anyone help me with this one.
I have a William Duddell born 1820 and while I was researching the records I came across this :-

All England Extracted Parish and Court Records Results.
Text: Duddell, William, 1st Ser., 1xi, 27
Book: Index Nominum to the First Royalist Composition Papers, First and Second Series.
Collection: England. Index Nominum to the Royalist Composition Papers (A-F)

How do I get to read these papers as there is no way of opening them.

Thanks for you help.

I see no-body has a clue what all of that means or what these records are. So I thought perhaps if I tell you that I have saved this record to my family tree. Greig family tree. Under William Duddell 1820.  If anyone would like to go into my tree and try to open this file I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

Hi

Unfortunately Ancestry doesn't have any further information but if you Google
Index Nominum to the First Royalist Composition Papers, First and Second Series
you get a number of hits and it looks like you can read it online, and might even be able to download it.

The link below may help

Hi Andy,
Thank you for that info. I did go into the sight and was able to read what I wanted. I haven't managed to down load it yet though.

You may be able to help me with some more info though.  The records I read were just a list of names and reference numbers alongside them. How do I find out what the pages refered to (by the reference numbers) say.  Apparently these are lists of people who had land and goods confiscated for their support of King Charles I or because they were Catholic.  I would like to know if and what my ancester had confiscated. Just cos I like to know these things.
As I am in Australia I cannot visit the Archives to look, but if there is a way of accessing the files on line, that would be good.
Thanks again for you help.
Brenda.

Hi

If you search The National Archives catalogue

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp

for Royal Composition Papers you will find the large series of papers that are held in the archives. Difficult to get records of this size online

'The First series consists of 7,300 sets of papers bound in 113 folio volumes...The second series of 3,634 sets of papers bound in 54 folio volumes...'

How have you proved the William Duddell who came before the committe sometime between 1642-1657 (a man of some personal property and wealth) was related to the William Duddell born in 1820? There are about 6/7 generations between them. Possibly the Royalist William Duddle was of Alston

Hi Valda,
I haven't proven the two William Duddells are related.  I was just very curious to know what was in those papers.  I am a retired journalist, so I like to know everything. Thanks for the help.  I will check that knew info out. Thanks again for your help.
Brenda.
