Hi John

The title of this post is now misleading as it has been established that Edward & Martha are no longer the right parents

What we have is an Alfred Ephron/Ephraim Burrows or Barrows b about 1868 who married in 1893 to Harriet Stratford.  See replies above re differences in surname

The marriage cert shows his father as Edward - labourer - deceased

By the 1901 census - Alfred has become Edward b Lambeth London and is again Edward in 1911

What is needed is to find "Alfred" on an earlier census with his parents to establish his ancestry

There is no birth or christening for an Alfred Ephron/Ephrain Barrows or Burrows nor is there an 1871/1881 entry that fits with a father Edward

We have to consider that he was illegitimate and made up a fathers name when he married so as to appear "respectable"
