Maybole - Fisher/Craig or Holgan
« on: Friday 15 April 05 23:01 BST (UK) »
Searching for any Fisher / Craig from Maybole.  James Fisher, mother Ann or Agnes Craig from Ireland,  born Weavers Vennel  abt 1832, also Robert born abt 1830.

Father's name perhaps Robert ??  The Holgan name is also connected, a second marriage ??

Per Scotland's People "Parish Records" a Robert Blyth married Isabella Fisher at Maybole 5/12/1830

I know this is later that you want but the 1871 Census for Weaver Vennal Maybole shows -

Isabella Blyth  Head Widow 58 Cotton Weaver b. Maybole
Helen Fisher Lodger Unmarried 66 Washerwoman b. Ireland
Jane Fisher Lodger Unmarried 18 Woolen Weaver b. Maybole

Jane Blyth the daughter of Isabella married into the Stevenson family and also lived in Weaver Vennal in 1881 and 1871

Hope this is of help

Thanks for that.

I've found it quite difficult to pin this lot down.  I suspect there are 2nd marriages here
and they used different surnames at various times.  James is up in Glasgow by 1851.
I know from the 1861 census for Glasgow, that  James's mother Ann, born Ireland abt 1801.

His wife Janet Smith's family also have connections with Maybole and Girven.  They seem to have moved down from Glasgow abt 1847, then back up again.

Thanks again

Janette
