Hi William Charstone was my mother in law's Great Grandfather and I have a fair amount of info on the family up to the present day.

We would love to hear from you as she was always told that she was the last in the line.  William seems to have disapeared after the 1881 census, but I have managed to track down most of what happened to the rest of them and would be very happy to share with you.

I look foreward to hearing from you.
Regards.

Thank you for sending the link.  I had found that a while back but was unsure if it was the correct family but it looks like it is!
Thanks again.

Hi,

Can anyone help with a translation of the parents information for Adolph Leopold Wilhelm Herwig?

Back from holiday.... :)

This was however a hard one, I've asked some Norwegian experts online without reaching a 100% conclusion.

This is as far as we' ve got:

Born Aug 24, 1837, bap. Sept 3, in Holzmunden, Braunswig.

Parents: Carl Wilhelm Adolph Herwig, Studioius and Musicus and wife Conradine Juliane Pfaarkulzen?? born Schier
[/b]

William's sister's confirmation two years earlier is #13 here:

Hi again,

There seems to be quite a lot of interest in this family.....

Here is William's father Carl Wilhelm Adolph Herwig's death:
(#298)

 http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5788&idx_id=5788&uid=ny&idx_side=-476

He died Nov 29, 1879 & was buried Dec 5, 1879 in Grønland Cemetery, Christiania.

Probate Record here, states useful info about his heirs:

(#1971; right hand page)

This is a link to the 1865 census with William Charstone's sister on for that year.  To save time with the translation it says her name is Emile Adolphine Christiane Herwig and she was born 1835 Hannover (spelt that way) and she is a houskeeper.  At least that unravels the spellings for her name!

Hi again!

Some crossings out & a bit tricky to read, but this is what I think Carl Wilhelm Adolph Herwig's probate record reads:

*********************************************************************
Leaves behind widow Elisabeth Herwig, born Røer and two adult children from a previous marriage of which one daughter in this town and one son noone has heard anything from in 20 years.

There are also 7 adult children after the second marriage with the above mentioned widow, four in this town, one in Enebak, one in Bergen, one who is a ??sailor?? and who’s whereabouts is not known and noone has heard from in a couple of years.

*********************************************************************

You may check if this matches censuses and other info you have,

Good luck!
