looking for Elsie Lillian Seale-Ligate-Baker
« on: Monday 17 January 11 13:32 GMT (UK) »
I am brand new to rootschat.com and am hopeful that readers can help me.
I am looking for records/information on my great aunt, born in 1900 as Elsie Lillian Seale, baptized 12 August 1900 in Southborough, Kent, England.

Father: Arthur Seale, Mother: Louise Barden

Married September 6, 1917 to Alexander Ligate,
Made several trips to and from England to Canada; January 16, 1919, December 14, 1924, April 3, 1925, May 6, 1928 (this is when she left her husband and 2 children in Canada, and arrived in Liverpool.  The family did not hear from her again, that I have record of).

Family stories have it that she went to Malta or Egypt, or other Mediterranean areas. Stories also suggest she linked up with a George Baker, but dd not marry him, nor did she supposedly divorce her first husband, Alexander Ligate.

She died April 3, 1955, but I only have information that she is buried in an unmarked grave, in Southborough cemetery, next to her mother.

Any suggestions and/or information that readers might have would be greatly appreciated.

Well, according to the census, Elsie Lilian's mother was Beatrice Louise.  There is a death of a Beatrice L SEALE recorded in the Tonbridge registration district March quarter 1959 age 83 ref. 5b 1211.  Beatrice Louise SEALE was indeed buried at Southborough Cemetery 19 Feb 1959 https://www.deceasedonline.com/

You will need to pay to see the full record.  If she was buried in the same grave as Beatrice then you should be able to find it quite easily.  If she wasn't ........... I can't recall if you can scroll through the cemetery records without putting a surname in the search field :-\

Thank you for your response.  I have some credits for deceased on line, but can't seem to bring up Beatrice Seale.  From what I understand, Elsie is buried next to her mother; her mother's grave being marked, but Elsie's apparently is not.
Would love to see if I can scroll through records for Southborough cemetery to see if she is listed.

Use the advanced search, surname "SEALE", tick box for similar names and select United Kingdom/South East/Kent/Southborough Town Council ........... Beatrice is listed as SEAL as is an Arthur 1945.

got it!  Any idea how I might find if Elsie is buried there as well?  Do you know if there is anything on line that you can search records for that specific cemetery?
thanks for your help.  This is information I had not had before.

I have been playing around with the index and see that you only need to enter the first letter of a surname thus work through the alphabet for Southborough in 1955.  I couldn't see anything that immediately stood out ............. how sure of you that she died on that date and was buried in Southborough?

Who else was buried with Beatrice (I notice it said 1 other in the grave register) ............. was it Arthur?

It was Arthur.
I only know from what I have heard from relatives, that Elsie died on April 3, 1955. I checked the BMD and did not find her listed. However, I don't know what last name she used. The story goes that she did not divorce my great uncle, nor did she marry another man. But who knows??  It is quite a mystery.
