Codman family, Llandudno
« on: Monday 17 January 11 18:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for information about the family of John William Henry Codman and his wife Jessie Ryland Revill who I believe lived in Llandudno and were members of the well known Punch & Judy family. Jessie died in 1934 (June Qtr) and John, I think in 1934. I cannot find any birth records for the couple and wondered if there were any local details available about the couple.

Thanks.

Barry

Hi Barry

FreeBMD has this information

Birth Jessie Ryland Revill  Dec Q 1881  Aston vol 6d page 397
Birth John William Henry Codman Sep Q 1876 West Derby vol 8b page 305
there is a also a birth of a John William Henry Codman in 1899 at Liverpool

Marriage for John William Henry Codman Dec Q 1908 Conway vol 11b page 898
The marriage reference for Jessie Revill is listed under Congleton 8a page 898 but there is note saying the reference is likely incorrect.

Hi Barry,      The marriage is also on North Wales BMD, ref C/14/2/224, Llandudno St George, which I presume means they got married at St Georges Church. Llandudno.       By coincidence a photo of the Codman home appears today on the local Llandudno web site, www.threetownsforum.co.uk  under hobbies & interests (page 3 of photography).  There are a few experts on the site who could help with the history and photographs of the family.  Best wishes, Gwyn

Hello Barry R,

Some of the local history books on Llandudno in the old days have some lovely photos of the Codman Punch and Judy stall on the promenade in Llandudno. I don't know if you have seen these. I am sure that the people on The Three Towns Forum can advise you on the best ones available.

I remember Codman's Punch and Judy show there as a child. They drew a huge audience of children then.

Jo
