Evans - 63 Orts Road, Reading

I hope someone can help.

I have a George Evans at 63, Orts Road, Reading in 1911 - but there are another 6 males in the house. Not sure who they are.

Any help would be greatly welcome.

He was born in 1870 in Toddington - moved to Reading late 1890's or early 1900, but not sure when and why moved.

Cannot trace record of death either. Though the other males in house might help my quest.

Not sure this is the right one, he's born Wantage. He's also at the same address in 1901, with wife Matilda born Reading and eight children born Reading. He's a painter and decorator.

(it looks like he married Alice taylor in 1892 reading - so looks like he moved to Reading earlier than you thought)

Yes married to Alice Taylor - I wonder why he moved to Reading.

I wondered as to whether Huntley & Palmers may have been the incentive - possible work?

I think I just found a relative of mine living at this address as a boarder in the ‘21 census. I think your theory about Huntley & Palmers is right. The rest of my relative’s family were all living back at their home address in London.
Edit: my relative worked at the nearby Gas Works, he often travelled around as a boarder. So I expect the houses on this road were used for lodgings quite a bit.
