Thanks very much for your efforts, Jan.

The one you found in Funtington in 1727 is the closest out of all the ones found so far. Not sure where to go from here. I've checked William's children for naming patterns nothing much there. Can't think of much else to track them down.

Thanks very much for your help.  :)

Hi

From the general lack of Ap(p)s activity in Funtington at least we know that William Aps baptised 1727 didn't die or marry in Funtington, nor did he marry elsewhere and come back to have children. This is encouraging  :D

Where next?
Look for any earlier Ap(p)s in Boxgrove? Any marriages for Ann, Thomas and Mary Apps junior? They didn't die or marry in Funtington either. I'm wondering if the children went to live with family, perhaps Boxgrove or nearby, as their parents appear to have died when they were young.

If you need anymore look-ups please don't be afraid to ask

Jan ;)

Hello Jan, I think I've found Mary and Thomas' (twins) marriages. Forgive me for putting it all up on here, just helps me keep it clear in my mind  :)

Mary Apps married William Leot/Scot, Sidlesham, 22 June 1756

Two possibles for Thomas

Thomas Apps married Sarah Russel, Rotherfield, 17 Nov 1758

Thomas Apps married Sarah Penfold, Selsey, 1755

Sidlesham and Selsey are both south of Chichester and close to the coast and each other.

Compared to the distance from these places and Funtington, Boxgrove is about the same distance. So it might be that the children all went their separate ways. The dates of the marriages also seem to fit to the norm of late teens/early twenties.

Thanks for the look-up offer. You're a huge help!  :)

I like the Selsey and Sidlesham marriages :D

If you play around on this site
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/
(which lets you search the IGI by parish) you will find that neither Thomas nor Mary are born in those parishes and Apps activity is scarce before their arrival.

Thanks for the link.  :)

Unfortunately, it's not the same case for Boxgrove. Looks as though there are lots of Apps' in Boxgrove stretching back to at least 1631. Not sure what to make of that. Would you say this is bad?

I have noticed that there is no William Ap(p)s in the 1720s in Boxgrove, so maybe that's a positive.

I notice there is an Edward Apps baptised 1657 in Boxgrove and am wondering if he could be the one who has children in Funtington with an Ann and then later Mary - he doesn't seem to have children in Boxgrove. Would make him an old father but that never stopped some of my ancestors - one was fathering in his 80s having his youngest after one of his sons had his last child!

Anyway I rather like that there are plenty of Apps pre William's marriage as it fits with my theory of the children going to live with family ;D

Jan ;)

Just found this marriage which would be worth further investigation
Ed Apps to Mary Binstead 10 April 1724 Rumboldswyke (that's SE of Chichester, now part of it)

I think you're right.

If there is no Ap(ps) presence in Funtington before then, then the time between the births seem odd. What I also noticed is the difference of spelling of Apps/Aps. Looking back when you posted the baptisms of William, Ann and the twins, if they are all spelt Aps instead of Apps then it looks likely to me.

So I think I should try and find marriages for Edward and Ann and Mary.
 :)

Beat me to it!  :)

I think I have found the/a marriage to Ann

Edward Apse married Anne Wickham 22 Sep 1702 Wadhurst, Sussex, England

Not sure this is it, Wadhurst is in East Sussex near Rotherfield.

I'm wondering if Ann and Edward had children before Ann in Funtington. There is an Edward having children in Mid Lavant in the 1690s, no mother's name sadly which is common in earlier baptisms (I mean what have mothers got to do with it!). Mid Lavant is 2or 3 miles East of Funtington. Again no Apps baptisms before this time and no Apps marriages at all.

As yet I can't see a suitable Edward to Ann marriage
