Clayden in Helions or Steeple Bumpstead
« on: Saturday 22 January 11 15:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I am looking for anything on Elizabeth Clayden or Claydon who married Albert Brown. She was born in either Steeple Bumpstead or Helions Bumpstead in Essex in 1860 or 1861. I've never come across the name 'Clayden' before so I thought it would be easy to search for, but I haven't found anything on her on FreeBmd and Familysearch.

They had at least two boys and a girl, one of the boys being my great grandfather Albert Edward. If anyone has anything on her or her parents, including a marriage and death record, that would be fantastic!

Thanks again everybody  :)

Hi Miles
It might help if you gave dates of birth for the children and perhaps someone can work backwards from that date

Hi Louisa,

sorry I didn't think of posting that. Albert Edward Brown born in Deptford on 7 August, 1887. I don't know the other children's dates of birth but I think one son may be named Thomas. Albert Brown (who married Elizabeth Clayden) was born 1861 but I don't know whether he was born in London or Essex.

Thanks

Miles

Once again if I am on the right track and father Albert was a PC then there are 4 siblings baptised at St Mark Deptford.
I don't know for sure what info you need
Albert Brown was born Whitechapel Middx

Hi Louisa

That sounds spot on - my grandmother said he was a police constable . ~What were the children's names? Also, does it say where in Deptford were they living?

On the 1861 census with Elizabeth Claydon, is the father George listed as being born in Helions Bumpstead too?

Thanks again  :D

There appears to be just 1 marriage in Risbridge showing up can't be 100% sure it is them

George Claydon
to
Emma Darkin
June qtr 1855 ref 4a 453

BUT this would have to be checked out .

If Mr Brown worked for the Met police there are records kept, possibly at the National archives or police head quarters in Buckingham palace Road London, I will sort out the address for you
