Jacques Polet born France / died England lookup please

Hi All,

I'm looking for a Jacques Polet born about 1660 in france, he married a Margaurette Woollet Born France about the same time as Jacques,

Marriage took place at spittafields in London 1682 with "Jacques Pole" as the name transcribed.

Unsure about whether they're Huguenot or not, and what year they came to England.

I haven't found a reference in London for his death or burial.

Children as follows.

Jacques Polet    1684 Spitafields, London
Abraham Polet  1686 "as above"
Sara Polet.       1686 "as above"
Guiliaume Polet 1691 "as above"

The four children you list were baptised at The Threadneedle Street French Huguenot Church, in the City of London (Not Spitalfields), so they were Huguenots yes.

They were baptised in the Huguenot Church in Threadneedle Street. These just give godparents and parents name, and date of birth, at that date no info on where the couple actually lived. Spitalfields is a good bet though as the majority of the Huguenot community in East London lived there.

Hi Richarde, thanks that's interesting I wonder why there are two one with the wrong year the previous I found was in 1682 spittafields London who that is then as it seemed to match.

Will have to look at that one again, had a quick google and that was close to spittafields London that church.

Thanks for the lookup on the marriage.

I also found a Abraham Polet & Ester there also with a so named piere n in 1667 same place as my family.

Perhaps the 1682 reference was from a submitted entry on the IGI and unreliable. I would have thought any marriage in Spitalfields 1682 an impossibility. It had no French chapel until 1686, and no English church there until around 1729.

Thanks for you reply and the information I like to check these things before I proceed further, thanks for clarifying it's good to know these things as this is new territory for me wasn't expecting to find Huguenot ancestors.

A Jacques Polet joined the Threadneedle Street Church in 1677, with a testimony from the Huguenot Church in Canterbury that might be him. But there were already Polet's in London before then. Are you sure he was born in France not London?
