Hansell/Ansell
« on: Sunday 23 January 11 11:02 GMT (UK) »
G'day Chatters,

I have a Joseph HANSELL born c.1790 in Middlesex.

He was tried in 1809 and at the age of 19 was transported for Life to Australia in 1811.

The Convict record and Court trial listed him as being 19 years of age.

He died in 1828 and his name was recorded as ANSELL.

No parents were listed in any of the records.

The closest I have come to locating a definate birth date for this Joseph is a record of a Christening 29 June 1788 at St Andrew Enfield London for a Joseph ANSELL, with the parents being a William and Mary.

Would it be possible please, if someone can, check for more Christenings to the above parents at or near Enfield.

Many thanks
rr

Thank you Ray.

I had those names but not the dates. Thanks for that.

Two other names that I have are Thomas and Sarah but no dates.

I wonder if there is a marriage around for William to a Mary pre 1784.

Regards

Hi,

Have you found any cross connections for surnames: STOREY or STORY/ ROWLEDGE/ MORGAN/ GRIFFIN/ ANSLEY or AINSLEY or ANSEL or HANSELL / PRATT in your research?  Origins Ware/Stanstead Abbots/Hoddesden/Aston areas of Hertfordshire then St. Andrew’s by the Wardrobe in the Queenshythe area of the City of London from about 1825.

Edmund GRIFFIN and Ann ANSLEY were married in Stanstead Abbots parish church, Herts 19/5/1816.  Was Hansell (forename possibly Edward) the Godfather to their son Edward Griffin, born 11/9/1825 and christened at the parish church of Saint Andrew by the Wardrobe.

Thanks,

David

Thank you Ray for the latest two dates.

David, Sorry mate cannot help you at this point.
My research into this name has been mainly in Australia and in general with the spelling of HANSELL.

From what Ray has given me there is an interesting possibility whereby you have mentioned the marriage of an Edmund GRIFFIN to an Ann ANLSEY in 1816. If the Ann in question is the one I have born in 1784 she would have been about 32 at the time.

Regards to both
