William Woodruff born Glossop c 1833
« on: Saturday 05 June 04 21:35 BST (UK) »
 :)
Can anyone please help me to find the birth details of my great grandfather William Woodruff. On 1881 census in West Hougham, Kent, he states that he was born Glossop, Derby. I have been unable to find this info so far.

He was a regular soldier from 1856 in HEIC (India Campaign) and then in the 2nd Battalion 3rd Buffs from 1860 to 1880's.

He married Mary Brown from Limerick, Ireland in 1860.

Thank you,

Calmar

UPDATE

Mary and William married in St. Michaels, Limerick 1860. William's father was Edward Woodruff. 1841/51 census details would be appreciated for Edward.

Thank you Sunflower for that info.

Is it possible to say which area of Derbyshire this relates to? I am afraid the Piece number, etc, don't mean a lot to me :-[

Maid Marion I could hug you!! What a find for 1871. I have been trying to search for them in 1871 without success. That may now give me a clue as to where they married. The name Ravina is actually Rovina. I think John and her must have died as they are not with the family on 1881/1891. I presumed Frederick, my grandfather, was the eldest child and he named his eldest daughter Rovina. I wondered why. that explains it!

Thanks also for the info on 1841 in Glossop. Will keep that for future reference.

Again, my very greatful thanks for that info. ;D :D
