No they don't ring any bells!! What a lot in Wales, that is surprising as I understood it to be a Northern name.

Have looked for the John in Yate but nothing showing on LDS. He could be a relative, perhaps a son of a brother and William taken him under his wing, so to speak.

Hi Sylvia,

I have contacted John Thompson last week but he doesn't connect to my family and says he can't help me.

The following are the names I have already:-

1. ggrandfather William Woodruff born c 1833 Glossop. His father Edward Woodruff

2. ggrandmother Mary brown born c 1842 Limerick. Her father Thomas Brown.

3. grandfather Frederick Woodruff born 1871 Aldershot

4. grandmother Annie Elizabeth Swift born c 1873 Sheffield.

William's children:-

John William b Gibraltar 1864
Ravina b Dublin 1868 **
Frederick b 1871 Aldershot
Henry b  Dover 1871  **
Edith Kathleen b  Dover 1874  **
Loftus b Dover 1878  **
George b Dover 1880

** Can't find details other than birth or census for these children.

William's family moved about a lot from 1860's to 1874 when he was in the army. In Cheriton in 1871. Settled in Dover area from 1872-1881ish. In Sheffield in 1891.

Can't find anything on John Woodruff on 1871 aged 20 from Yate Glouc. Thought that he might connect somewhere to this family.

Am I having a senior moment!! What year did you find them on!! - Frederick 10 John 40 and Mary Ann also the Woodruff from Calcutta. Another red herring!

My John and his family were in Dover from 1891 - 1901.  Dont know where John was in 1881.

Had a look at the Wirksworth site and will keep it in mind for if I get further back with my William.
