Arthuret/Longtown
« on: Saturday 16 April 05 21:03 BST (UK) »
Has anyone any knowledge or connections to a family called Swan/Swann who lived in Athuret (the old name for Longtown) around 1846.  Alexander Swan described, as Blacksmith aged 35 in the 1881 census may be an ancestor of mine.  Thank you in advance for any information received.

Hi worjack
Unfortunately I don't have any information for your Swan/Swann connection,  I'm sure that Arthuret is a samll Hamlet next to Longtown.   I think that they are separate 'villages'.
Best wishes
Rhial

Hi,

Don't have any connection, but do you have him on any other census returns?  If not, let me know and I'll look into it for you.

Regards, Emma ;)

Hi,

The site that Lacie kindly linked is an excellent site.  To search it for obits, births & marr notices use Google.

Longtown is in Arthuret Parish, so if your folks lived in Longtown they would be buried at Arthuret Church.

Cheers,
Pam

Hi Not sure this will reach you as post was so long ago....
I have Swan family in Northumberland, land owners and Mill owners.  Some may have been butchers, the line goes back to early 1700`s.  The areas are Cowpen, Bedlington, Earsden and Sleekburn
