« on: Friday 28 January 11 23:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Could anyone please help with any records that proves an existence to a family member in my tree.  I am interested in records held by The National Archives,  Records Office The Police and other sources that could be of interest.

I am interested in records between 1940-1950s of the following........

Immigrants to the UK.

Registration list and cards ( residence in the Nottingham area).

Immigrants from Cyprus.

If anyone could help, i would be truly grateful

Thank you.

If you can give us more details like names and dates of birth family members etc. We can look things up for you.

some people have access to things that are not on the internet.

Cheers and Welcome, Ted

Cypriana previously sent me a PM and I don't believe she has a name. A fictitious name for a father was given on a birth certificate (illegitimate birth in 1951) and all she knows is that he was probably Cypriot and living in the Nottingham area in 1950/1. He may perhaps have had the forename Nic(h)olas and may perhaps have died in 1950 or 1951 (not necessarily in England or Wales).

There is some further detail at this link:

The question is, therefore, a general one regarding what records may be available to locate Cypriots possibly living in the Nottingham area during the late 1940s and early 1950s.

A difficult but feasible course of action suggests itself to me. A Cypriot as a British subject would be entitled to vote in British elections, and should be registered on the electoral roll. A full search (quite a job) of the registers should find him if he's there. If the registers have been digitised then the search will be easier.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
