Barry Docks
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 11:13 GMT (UK) »
Good Morning All,

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I need to locate lists of ships docked that docked in Barry in December 1959.

A search on google hasn't thrown up any places where I can find these records so I am wondering if anyone knows where they may be held.

Kind Regards

Colleen

They were probably cargo ships carrying coal, iron ore, or steel.

or you could contact the local authority (Vale of Glamorgan - who are mainly based in Barry) - is it a cargo ship that you are looking for - as this would be likely at Barry Docks ...... Geest Bananas used to use the dock for many years ... amongst others ...

Thanks for the replies,

I am not sure if it was cargo or passenger or the name of it sadly.

I am trying to get my Grandads MN Records and he lied about his age to get in to the MN. I have been trying for years, but what I do know is he was a Chief Steward and my Nan who was 20 years younger was a Stewardess.
They met on the ships, docked in Barry (where he had family) and knocked on his brothers door and announced her has his intended wife. He married her on the 6th Jan 1959, approx 14 days after they docked and he had started dating her.
I guessed if I could find out the names of ships docked within that time period I could then search the Crew Lists for them.

Thanks again,

Colleen

the Merchant Seaman records for that time are alphabetical by surname, so are you looking for a common name?

Have you asked the record office in Cardiff to see if they have records for Barry Docks?
