Scottish MI, Some OPR & Census held in Edinburgh
« on: Sunday 06 June 04 11:23 BST (UK) »
I'm dedicating next Tuesday evening to requests in Edinburgh Central Library.

The easiest thing I have access to is Scottish MI here's the list:-

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/libraries/historysphere/epitaphs/Parishlist.html

These are indexed so take less time to do than unindexed films.

There are 1851 indexes for many parishes, go to this site and keyword search for 1851 & index and you'll get a list (note I'll be in the Scottish Reference Library).

http://eclis.edinburgh.gov.uk/www-bin/www_talis32

Finally, if you have quite a bit of info I'll do lookups on OPR, unindexed census films for Dumfriesshire and Midlothian - there are other areas held but I don't know what they are.  Give me as much info as you can as  these are unindexed and I'll only have 2.5 hours.

PLease post your requests here if you have any.

Cheers,
Pam

I don't know if the records for this will be there, but if they are can you have a look for

John McNalty born 1859
Army discharge papers say born in the parish of Lochgelly near Kirkcaldy Fife.  He attested at Edinburgh on 9 July 1879 for the Royal Engineers age 20 years.  He died in 1892 in Kent, GRO index says name John Patten McNalty (I have ordered this but its not arrived yet).

His marriage cert in 1887 says 27 years old and fathers name is Alexander McNalty occupation gardener.

His sons (John Henry) marriage cert in 1916 says fathers name John Henry Patten McNalty (deceased) occupation Stonemason.

I have tried every site possible to find his birth and had no luck, even Fifer on this site had a look but couldn't find him.

I would be grateful for any time you can give but please don't spend to much time on him cos I think he's one of those that wants to remain hidden for a while

Thanks

If you happen to visit here again, I would be interested in the Old Machar, Aberdeen MI's for the surname ELRICK

Hello Pam,
I am looking for a family in the 1851 census for Berwickshire. They were living in Greenlaw and their names are:
Michael Gordon b 1786 and Jean Gordon (nee Blyth), children David b 1825, Janet b 1821, Margaret b 1817, John b 1833, Cathrine b 1835 and Mary b 1826. Any help would much appreciated.

Cheers

Ok I'm going for 2 hours because that Denmark Sweden game will be good - I've got a couple to do but if anyone has a burning interest I'll do more.

Cheers,
Pam

Bloomin ITV are showing the wrong game!
Heyho.

Twink:  No Old Machar entries for the name ELRICK, even looked for odd spellings nowt, sorry.  Didn't have time to do the obits I'll try next time.

Karenn:  I seriously ran out of time but I did have a look for the Berwickshire index (if there is one) and it wasn't on the shelf with the others.  I'll try to get the film next time I go.

I'm not very good am I :(!
