Hi Pam,
What a kind gesture!, it amazes me how kind people are on these sites.

I am looking please for an MI for my ggggrandfather THOMAS PATERSON died at Plean asylum St. Ninians aged 78 in 1857. It states on his death record that he was buried at Plean cemetary and I am hoping there may be some extra information for him on the MI.
He is a widower by then but it would be nice to see if his wife CATHERINE PATERSON nee NAPIER b. Inveresk was there too.

Also if you have any access to the 1851 census for Plean Asylum, St. Ninians Stirling my only hope of ever finding his birth is knowing where he was born, so I am hoping he is still at Plean asylum in 1851 as it was for retired sailors and his birthplace is listed.

Many thanks if you can, but do not worry if you can't  :)

I'll be back at the library next week - probably Monday, work allowing.  The rest of this week involves Football and a small sherry or 2.

Anyone else feel free to leave requests on this thread (so they are all in the one place) and I'll do my best.  The place is sadly lacking in indexes so if the films are big it takes me ages, as much info as possible helps.

Cheers,
Pam

I don't like tennis as much as football so I went to the library tonight.

Patches - I'm having no luck with your request at all.  I only have access to unindexed OPRs I haven't had the time to try all the films in the area - I'm not giving up though!

Twink - tried the Aberdeen Obits and nothing for ELRICK there either?

Karenn - Whahay success I did a look up and found what somebody wanted - deep joy, so I got a bit over excited and did all the census & MI.

Do you have 1881 - I can check the disc if you need it, let me know.

I checked the MI for Greenlaw kirkyard and found this...

442.  Erected by Catherine Gordon in loving memory of James Gordon who died at Westerrow Greenlaw 19th May 1914 aged 27 years also the said Catherine Gordon who died 3rd December 1914 aged 80 years also Jane Gordon who died 29th January 1924 aged 64 years.

Finally if you want to pursue any Gordon connection the MI are there for that to - again let me know.  I like these smaller parishes you can whizz through the film  ;D

Lynn aka Willow - Hiya good and bad news.  Yup I got him on the census...

1851 Plean

Thomas Paterson Inmate Widower 72 Sailor-Royal Navy born: Edinburgh-shire Lasswade.

The MI for the Plean cemetery is scant.  There are 9 graves in the book - one appears to be a big list of gents who died and the home and I think most of it is unreadable there were a couple of Thos...? entries.  None of the readable ones had spouse info.  Sorry.

Kristin aka Nutkin - Hmmm, 1 out of three for you.5 graves in the Paisley book for Yuill and var.  The book is transcribed in awkward shorthand but these are the entries...

S8: Paisley Canal St (1st Relief)
210. 578. (on south wall)
Jas Yuill mason w Jean Gardener 22.12.1803 & heirs

S9: Paisley Oakshaw East (France's Kirkyard)
8.  Jas Yool & ...

S12: Paisley Woodside Cemetery
132.  Jas Caldwell writer Paisley 10/2/1847 43 w Janet Yuill 28/12/1899 83 dau Margt 4/2/1891 59

143. Wm Yuill 30/12/1864 74 w Mary Colquhoun 30/1/1887 95 children Mary 26/9/1821 inf Wm 10/1825 15m Mary 8/2/1836 4y 5m Wm 22/7/1856 28 Thos 3/8/1863 34 Margt 6/5/1878 60 wid of Wm King

183.  John Yuill manufacturer 31/8/1894 74 w Marion Auld 19/1/1910 78 dau Jane 25/11/1854 7m son Wm 13/12/1890 31 dau Janet 22/4/1863 4/5/1912 s John 26/11/1864 27/10/1916 dau Margt 6/7/1866 18/12/1955

Better luck with Fenwick...

Erected by James Young farmer Drum Cloich wife Jean Thomson died 19/6/1838 aged 67 years also above James Young died 5/2/1852 aged 81 years.

I'll be back again in a couple of weeks - I'm travelling around doing a bit of grave walking so may not get indoors for a week or 2.  But leave requests here and I'll get to them.

Cheers,
Pam

Sorry Pam,
I was just having one of those 'senior moments', however I would be happy to do lookups for you in Australia.

Thank you again for all the GORDON info.  I don't have any 1881 census information, so when you have time, maybe you could look that up for me too.

Cheers

Thanks Pam!  I will look over what you gave me.

The Yuill family is an elusive bunch.  Seems there was a Yuill family in the same area who were also shawl weavers but they actually owned the shawl manufacturing company.  I think mine were the poor relations. :P

I will be back in touch later in a couple of weeks with some more requests.

Thank you!- Nutkin
