Barnes family in 1841 and 1861
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 13:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can any one find this family?

Eleanor Barnes (nee Christie) was born in Epsom in 1816, her husband James Barnes was born in Long Hope, Gloucestershire in 1811. They married in 1835 in Lambeth and their first child James William Barnes was born about 1840.

I have the family in 1851 - HO 107/1702/428/44 in Tottenham and in 1871 RG 10/301/54/33 in Islington. By 1871 Eleanor is a widow, but I'm not sure when James died.

I can't find them in 1841 or 1861 can anyone spot them?

Thanks

Jan

Hi

There are known problems with the 1861 census for London for instance the whole of RG9/145 part of Islington East is missing. If you know from birth certificates streets and the area to search you can check on Your Archives to see what further parts of enumeration districts and streets are missing.

Your Archives for Islington streets (trawling through the streets shows just how much of this census has not survived for Islington)

Thanks Keyboard86 - that looks like them in 1841, neither born in county but their son was.

Thank you for the information Valda, that would explain why they can't be found. What a shame so much is missing.
