Womens Refuge Kings Norton
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 16:12 GMT (UK) »
 :)Hello!

I have started to research my friends family tree, and I have come across her G G Nan being a resident at "37 Tindal St (Womans Refuge)" Kings Norton in 1881.
It then lists the head as (what looks like) "master of suicidal house refuge"
No one has a tick in the end column on the census, and the person is back at home with husband and children in 1891.

Has anyone any information on this place? I would be very grateful!

Hello Donna,

thanks for that and yes I agree it does indeed look like Trindal as oppose to suicidal!
But oh Derek! :o :o :o
That site is wonderful, thanks for sharing but the article about the refuge has certainly threw new light on it!
Even though its not my tree,I am sure the lady in question is an inmate, everything adds up,however it states that the ladies are listed as unmarried and my lady was married in 1880....I would be intrigued to see if it stated an occupation on her marriage cert ;D

I found some bits on this place and on the Noel Road Refuge Edgbaston yesterday in google.....The articles called them a laudry/training in domestic service aimed at recuperating unmarried mothers etc
