1841 census Thomas WILKS
« on: Sunday 30 January 11 04:15 GMT (UK) »
Would someone be able to help me find Thomas WILKS in the 1841 census, please? He was born  1827 in Martley. Parents were Richard and Maria WILKS.

Thank you.

Jamie   :)

Thomas WILKES A Male Servant age 14 in Arley kings in the Martley district

It may be worth asking some one to look for a parish apprenticeship for him in Worcester History Centre

Hi Jamie
There’s an on-line index of 5000+ Worcestershire apprentices on the County Record Office website:-

Thank you, Trees and Nemo.

There is a Thomas WILKS listed as having been indentured in 1844 to John Hatch a cordwainer. In later life though he was on the census as a 'plumber' or a 'painter and decorator'. He'd be the right age, however.

I wonder what Arley kings is? I'll browse for it. That does sound like him.

Again, thanks to both,

Jamie

I don't think its him Jamie parish apprentices were usually about 9 at the start of the apprenticeship It was a way of relieving poor families of an extra mouth to feed the parish gave them a set of cloths and the master found bed and board in return for teaching a trade, usually husbandry or house wifery not much teaching went on more like unpaid labour. Arley Kings is a place south of Stourport on Severn NW of Ombersley

Trees – Does that mean that the "male servant" you found in the 1841 at Arely Kings who was a Thomas Wilkes is different from the one who was the apprentice?
