Trying to find family history - Nathan Rees or Nathan Reece
« on: Monday 31 January 11 10:26 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody help us we are trying to trace our ancestery and can not find anymore information on Nathan Rees.
He was born in either 1855 or 1854
In the 1881 census his name was Nathan Rees and was living in London, Middlesex, England. But then in the 1901 census his name was changed to Nathan Reece, it also states he was born in either Russia or Poland and was living in Spitalfields, Whitechapel, Christchurch, London.
He was married to Annie Reece also from Russia or Poland and had at least 9 children.

If anyone has any information on this family tree it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Quote

he was born in either Russia or Poland

From wikipedia

The partitions [of Poland] were carried out by the Russian Empire, Kingdom of Prussia, and Habsburg Austria dividing up the Commonwealth lands among themselves.

The Third Partition: October 24, 1795. With this partition, the independent state of Poland ceased to exist.

Over the next 123 years, a large part of Polish population and former territory would be subject to the rule of the Russian Empire

So Nathan and Hannah/Annie were probably born in the part of Poland under the rule of the Russian Empire
