Had a quick look on Scotlands people (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk) & could only find 2 Alexander Carmichael's born in Scotland around that time.

Alexander Carmichael baptised 30/08/1896 in Glasgow, Lanark. Parents Gershom Carmichael & Christian Inglis

Alexander Carmichael baptised 06/06/1697 in Wiston & Roberton, Lanark. Father James Carmichael.

the other was in 1896
