Ann Geary in Deptford
« on: Monday 31 January 11 18:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I'm trying to trace the Geary family who I believe were in Deptford - I only know of Ann Geary who was born in Deptford and married Charles Woodward in Newington in 1828. They had a daughter named Mary Jane Woodward.

I've been looking for Ann Geary's parents names and her brothers and sisters (if she had any) on Ancestry Library today but had no luck. Also trying to locate Ann Geary and Charles Woodward's childrens names but they seem to not exist.

There was some confusion as to whether they came from Deptford or Denford in Northampton but I think some family figured it was London a while ago.

Thanks everybody

Regards,
Miles

Thanks lizdb and John Hood, that's excellent. Charles Woodward came from Wavendon, Bucks I believe. Where were Charles and Ann living in the 1841 census? Same place?

Any clues as to who the parents of Ann are?

Thanks again

The witnesses at Charles & Ann's marriage at Holy Trinity, Newington, were Tho.s and Elizabeth GRIFFIN; I wonder whether they are brother/sister in law?

Hi,
1861 census gr9 319 175 56 has Charles Woodward aged 60 born c1801 Wavenden Bucks and Ann Greary born c1808 Denford Northamptonshire.
IGI has an Ann Greary born 6.9.1807 Denford DIED 11.12.1871 parents William Grary and Dorothy WEED. Their 3rd child William WEED Woodward would be a strong possibility as to as parents of Ann

Hi,
The IGI ref given in previous post is only a submitted record so be careful. However, 1841 census ref ho107 1049 11 14 has
Grange Walk Bermonsey
William Geary 60 Chaff Cutter not born county
Dorothy 55 not born county
Jane 20 not born county.
There is another submitted IGI record showing a William Geary baptised 18.2.1780 Ringstead Northamptonshire parents William Geary and Ann Freeman died 8.7.1849 and a Dorothy Geary died 22.12.1843 Bermondsey, buried 31.12.1843 St Mary Magdelen. This appears to tie in with a Free bmd ref Dorothy Geary dec q 1843 Bermondsey (1837-69)  4 37 AND William Geary sept q 1849 Bermondsey 4 6
