Hi Steve,

A big THANKS to you also. I appreciate the help that you and John have afforded me in the search of my roots. The Internet and those who use it properly are truly remarkable.

Hello sancti,

I bow my head in your direction.... :)  I too could find no deaths in Scotland.  Can you find them on the 1871 in Dudley, Worcester.?  A polite suggestion?

I went looking for a Margaret of the correct age from 1861 to 1910 and there are only 19.  The only one I could find was a Margaret Rule,  deaths, Sept 1876  age 58 District Dudley Vol 6c  page 52.

Then had a look for male deaths in Dudley in the same time frame, and could only find the one.  A John  who dies March 1880,  District Dudley, Vol 6c, page 73.

Might have nothing to do with the couple but you never know.

Am at work so have limited access to PC for the next week.

Regards,   Steve  :)

Eureka moment thanks to you Steve, they are transcribed as Berle but the original image confirms them as Rule. The writing is not great so I can only say that George is down as a Labourer and James is some kind of Fitter. George's age is scored through but it looks like 25 on the image.

All born Scotland

John Berle 57 Head occ (looks like) Steam Hammer Driver
Margaret Berle 52
James Berle 29 xx Fitter
George Berle 3 occ Labourer

Address is unclear but it is in Dudley

John-

Thanks

There seems to be many transcription differences. Name spelling is a big area. I've noticed Phillip, Philip, Phebe, Phoebe, Anne, Ann etc. I guess that I can add Berle, Rule to the list.

Do you know what they would charge to get a copy of the image? I've been trying to get copies when evere they are available.

Not yet but I am going to buy the software CD/DVD and join. There is apparently a US membership and a World membership. The world makes the most sense. I've been mulling the cost of $40/month (about 24 Sterling). I will most likely sign up next week.

I am still looking for info on my g. grandfather, James Rule.

1 - born in Glasgow 1843
2 - moved to Stourbridge with family in1862
3 - Married Phoebe Drewry in 1879
4 - two sons; Phillip b. 1881, Archibald b. 1884
5 - Phoebe & James parted ways mid 1880's (???)
6 - James Rule in and out of Dudley Union Workhouse mid to late 1890's

Workhouse activity indicates that James may have been a vagrant living on the streets after his landlady passed away in 1896. The last know record indicates that he checked himself out of the workhouse in 1901 never to be heard from again. It is thought that he may have died on the streets without identification and is buried in a pauper's grave somewhere in the Dudley area.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sarah,

Yes I am one in the same. I tried logging in as "PeteB" but was unsuccessful. My name wasn't recognized. I haven't been active on RootChat for a while. I thought that my login might have been deactivated. I created a new acct using "PRBaker. Sorry if I created some confusion.
