This is family! Elsie must be Mary Anne daughter. Her husband Austin died at 40. If so she was Norman's mother.

Check photo of Anne & Philip attached. The photo is labeled wrong should be "Anne Guest". Philip's granddaughter, Doris, had the photo unlabeled except for grandmother & Philip. Her niece gave me this photo when I located her in NH.

Pete

PS: you are unbelieveable for which I am thankful!

John,

You're my kind of person... a sense of humor. THANKS.

This is my biological great grandfather. He apparently had some issues. When his landlord passed away in the late 1890's he became a homeless person. Before that who knows? He may have been an alcoholic or abusive which caused phoebe's separation, speculation.

There are records from the workhouse in 1899 with statements that he was admission: "found wondering on the street" , "no friends whatever", "discharged: "own desire" and another admission: "no friends". His trail seems to end with the 1901 info.

The "widower" is a strange one that I haven't figured out. Phoebe was a "widow" when she entered the US. Possibly a status of convenience!

It's amazing how much information that I have found in just two years. I have the Internet and folks like you to thank.

I wonder if it was his brother John who married in 1869. This is 1871 census

John Rule 27 Head  born: Scotland occ Fitter and Turner
Harriet Rule 25  born: Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, England
Harriet Emma Rule 6 Months daur born: East, Staffordshire, England

Address 43 High Park Road Harborne Smethwick Worcestershire

I can't find any trace of the parents John and Margaret and wonder if they died in England before the 1871 census

Hello sancti,

I bow my head in your direction.... :)  I too could find no deaths in Scotland.  Can you find them on the 1871 in Dudley, Worcester.?  A polite suggestion?

I went looking for a Margaret of the correct age from 1861 to 1910 and there are only 19.  The only one I could find was a Margaret Rule,  deaths, Sept 1876  age 58 District Dudley Vol 6c  page 52.

Then had a look for male deaths in Dudley in the same time frame, and could only find the one.  A John  who dies March 1880,  District Dudley, Vol 6c, page 73.

Might have nothing to do with the couple but you never know.

Am at work so have limited access to PC for the next week.

Regards,   Steve  :)
