Hi All,

Can I suggest buying vouchers to use Scotland's People in libraries at a 50% discount price. Rather than paying an extra pound saving half, appeals to my Scottishness, LOL.

My library in East Kilbride does this, hope others in Scotland do the same.

Tom

PS  Oops, just noticed Mort29 advised this already, sorry
Scotland - Buchanan, Thomson, Pat(t)erson, Stewart, Ritchie, Tracey

Hi Tom,alas my library is in England and so I expect will be charging full English prices and totally ignoring my Scottishness ;D ;D ;D
Still, can't complain, practically all my research is Scotland and SP has been invaluable and the docs I now have (well over 100)were well worth the price.

Can you buy from the library if you are visiting Scotland??  or do you have to belong to the library?

My understanding is that at the moment, when you initially buy a Library Scotland's People 'Starter', it costs £6.00 and instead of getting 30 Credits for that amount, you get 60 Credits.

When you then buy 'Top-ups', for 30 Credits it costs £4.75, which is still less than going via your S.P. 'personal account'.

How long these prices last, who knows ....... possibly they'll go up when the rest do!

Just adding the link to conditions relating to purchasing SP credits via local libraries www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,504492.0.html - please note the restrictions regarding use of these credits purchased at a discount via local libraries.

Bah,there is always a catch,it would cost me about a £100 to get to the library to use my vouchers ???

I agree with Kooky on that link though Monica.SP should give a discount the more credits you buy.I would buy in bulk if I was saving in the long run.

To keep all this in context, let's not forget that SP offer a fantastic economic service. The current cost of £1.20 (search and view) within the cut offs for immediate image downloads (births - 1910, marriages - 1935, deaths - 1960) compares really well with the £9.25 it currently costs to order an extract from the GRO for English and Welsh BMDs...... ::)
