thomas Gray/Ann Henderson Weirhill Cem, Melrose
« on: Wednesday 02 February 11 20:23 GMT (UK) »
wonder if anyone has an inscription for thomas gray and ann henderson. I am not overly concerned as ai have all his details and have even the burial location

Weirhill Cemetery, Melrose, ROX (Sec. C2 Lair 31)

Just it was a small cemetery and i had a look around when i was last home and could not find him or his wifes headstone (buried together).

You never know, just curious that it may have had an extra snipett of info!

He died 1929 May 27th bemerysde, mertoun, BEW and she died 1918 Aug. 15th halkburn, melrose, ROX

Cheers folks, this site may be a godsend to me now i appear to have exhausted all avenues of research including local papers.

Rosbrog, Sorry but there is no headstone for Tom and Ann in Weirhill cemetery.I live next door and personally did the MIs for Weirhill about 5 yrs ago. They are not in the Abbey and unless you have WEARDS cemetery mixed up with Weirhill then unfortunately out of luck.
The local undertakers are Browns East Port Melrose who may can help with relatives if they did the funeral. Send me a PM if I can help further.

thanks very much allan

That explains why i walked around in circles with no luck!

The burial details i got where from Borders council. Anyway this was the southern reporter obituary for him in 1929 as well.

Southern reporter obituary, Thursday May 30th 1929
GRAY. – At East Bemersyde, on 27th inst., Thomas Gray, in his 81st year. Funeral Friday at 1 o’clock to Melrose Cemetery. Deeply mourned.

Did briefly check the cemetery outside melrose itself that was a good bit bigger.

Cheers for the help. Its good to know i wasn'twalking round there blind!

David

The report says Melrose cemetery. That would be I think Wairds cemetery not Weirhill. The MIs for Wairds have not been done by anybody yet.   Weirhill is an old cemetery and unless the family has plots its very rarely used now. I would check again with ehe Bereavement services of SBC.
