Ernest G Moody - Montreal.
« on: Thursday 03 February 11 21:19 GMT (UK) »
Hello .
I have been researching my Gt. Uncle. Ernest G Moody's life in Canada for some considerable time, but have been unsuccessful in establishing where and when he died. I do recall my late parents informing me that he died in Montreal in the late nineteen forties or early nineteen fifties,
Ernest immigrated to Canada on 4th July 1914. He enlisted in the CEF on July 31st 1915. Whilst serving with the 20th Can. Infantry Batt. He was awarded the Military Medal.
I have a copy of his service records.
He returned England on a number of occasions, and finally returned to Canada in 1925-26. and settled in Montreal.
Having spent the last couple of years on this research project. I have now run out of records to check. The number of records checked are too long to list.
I would appreciate your help.

Regards.
Brian.

Have you tried Lovell's directories?
http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/

If he continued to reside in Montreal, those might at least narrow down his date of death and give you an address for him.

Here's a quick search which is faster, just put an "Mo" in search line
http://stevemorse.org/montreal/montreal.html

In 1940 there is an Ern working at Dom (inion?) Glass living at 2283 Wurtele
http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/src/1940/6.Annuaire_alphab%E9tique_montr%E9alais/M/Mo/110773_1940_1828.pdf

In 1950 an Ern working at Verdun Machine Shop living same address
http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/src/1950/5.Annuaire_alphab%E9tique_montr%E9alais/M/Mo/110773_1950_1423.pdf
works at Patenaude Engineering in 1960 same address ( was also a machine shop)
http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/src/1960/6.Annuaire_alphab%E9tique_montr%E9alais/M/Mo/110776_1960_1628.pdf

so for now you can look into the 60's
added:
This a great site as you can write them with your contact info & request, and if they have it, for a small fee they will give you burial information....

Hello Jorose.
I did log on to Lovell directories, but has you will be aware the site records are written in French. Unfortunately when I attended school many years ago, the French language was not on the syllabus, consequently I can't read Frence. It was my intention to contact the site, and ask if they would do me, a look up.
Ever the optimist

Thank you.
Regards
Brian.

to see the actual apartment building as it looks today...put 2283 Rue Wurtele, Montréal into the search
 http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=2283%20Wurtele%20montreal%20que&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=vl
Then click on the image, and look to your right...It's the tawny brick with white doors! J.J.

also...
Did you know you can access his full military files as well if you are interested...No battle history, but basic details about other aspects of his life in the military, infirmary stay, etc...

I have a copy of Ernest's CEF Service Records. Unfortunately there is no citation has his award was on the New Years Honours List.

Thank you for the information that you have provided. It is appreciated

Regards.

Brian.

Just making sure as so many people think the 2 CEF attestation papers at signup ARE the records......Good luck with your searches. J.J.
