Hi Ev
Thanks for the welcome to Rootschat,
In the 1851 census Isobel was a widow residing in Forfar with 6 children under the age of 10and in reciept of "Parochial Relief".I have a sense that John was of Irish nationality...I wouldnt know where to start tracing him if that was the case.
                                               Regards vicdunc

outside census county usually meant another part of scotland
ireland as a birthplace was usually noted
but who knows if that is a 100%

there is a james harkins age 15 living forfar born outside census county in 1841 - i wonder if he was a brother ?
(he is in the household of a shoemaker)

Hi
I did a free search on scotlandspeople for Sturrock other name Harkins female left christian names out.
1855 onwards
birth year 1819 +/- 5 year and you get one hit

If this is the correct Isabella it will tell you wether she is a widow or still married any you can obtain her parents from this and would give you a time scale to look for her husband.

Yours Aye
