Hi Shawn
I hope Kasn is still watching as that is a lovely lot of information you have added. I was looking to see if there could be a connection to my unexplored Nelson family of Garvaghy Co Down.
I see that Rev Samuel's wife (Ashley) was from Rathfriland in Co Down which is an area associated with my Henry family. My 4x gt grandfather Brice Henry (1773-1852) married a Mary Nelson (1772-1850) of Garvaghy, daughter of Arthur and his wife nee Brown. Not enough information to establish if there is a connection.
Unfortunately my image of Nelson probate records from an index is not in a file I can attach. I think they came from a Co Down website. A footnote says to also look at the names Nealson, Nielson and Neilson.
Arthur Nelson; Fedney 1831
James Nelson; Fedney 1769
John Nelson; Fedney 1806.
Also a Widow Margaret Nelson, Garvaghy 1742
and Robert Nelson, Garvaghy 1810.
I am able to copy my list from the Tithes and included is a Samuel Nelson from Fedney. Again not enough to establish a link to my family but could be of interest. 1834 was the year the Tithes were recorded in this area.
Tithes:
Neilson, Ebenezer Townland: Knockgorm Year: 1834
Neilson, John Townland: Kilkinamurry Year: 1834
Nelson, Eben. Townland: Knockgorm Year: 1834
Nelson, James Townland: Carnew Year: 1834
Nelson, James Townland: Garvaghy Year: 1834
Nelson, John Townland: Carnew Year: 1834
Nelson, John Townland: Kilkinamurry Year: 1834
Nelson, Moses Townland: Fedney Year: 1834
Nelson, Samuel Townland: Fedney Year: 1834
Nelson, Thomas Townland: Fedney Year: 1834
I am fairly certain the Ebenezer Nelsons are related to me as Brice and Mary had a son Ebenezer Henry born 1830 and died at Knockgorm in 1906. Ebenezer's oldest brother James Henry was born 1798 in Ayr, Scotland because Brice had sent his wife Mary nee Nelson away from the area due to the 1798 rebellion. The Garvaghy Nelson family was said to be Scottish in origin.
James Henry also married a Mary Nelson but of Knockgorm and her Nelson family is believed to be English in origin.
Cheers
Linda
