Hi again  :)

There are numerous trees on Ancestry that have Mary, the elder's parents as James Hastings/Hairstones and Elizabeth Boyes/Boyles.  They also seem to have her dying in 1899, aged 100 but so far I've not found any evidence given.

JL

Added - other have her dying in 1864  ::)

Oh dear I'm sat here scratching my head :-\  Ok so we agree that Mary (the elder) her parents are James Hastings and Betty Boyes - am I correct or getting muddled??

Mary S Hastings - the younger Mary, her parents are John Hastings and Helen Murray - yes??  Am I keeping up with you?? ::) ;D

I do have my tree on Ancestry and I'm busily adding info and coming up with yet more info from other trees, plus trying to keep up with you too ;)  I think I'm following it all, may definitely have to top up with more credits!!

Thank you - you are just too good :)

Hi Elaine

Yes - you're correct ;D

and John Hastings, Mary the younger's father, seems to be the brother of Mary the elder so...............

Mary the elder was Mary the younger's auntie.

One of the Ancestry trees have the parents of James Hastings/Hairstones  as well - a further generation back!

Oh heck I can only deal with one thing at a time - my head's not in gear!! ;D

I'll go and make some tea and have a break then look again later.

Thanks for all your help, I can't believe the quick and helpful response from you on here - what a great forum, much better than some other smaller forums I could mention ::)

Best wishes and many thanks again,

Elaine :)

Hi ev and JL,

Well I'm back at it but the glass of wine didn't help that I had with tea! ;D

I'm trying to go back further than Hugh Harris and Agnes but I'm drawing a blank on SP.  Any suggestions please??

Elaine  :)

remember to use IGI

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

the "extracted" entries are more or less what's on SP
SP sometimes has more info. if you view the old parish records but most often
not , and costs can add up if you keep finding the wrong ones
however , the IGI is free to search ,
just don't trust "submitted" entries

ev

PS my new dog is a beagle
Appin is his name , which comes from "land of the stewart kings"
or a pain in the neck  ;D
so Tia(or Molly the lady) stays on my posts

Hi Elaine  :)

I'd just like to re-enforce what ev has said about the IGI - use that before you spend any credits on SP BUT then, if you have a hit, go to SP because you will most likely get more info on the original records than the IGI.

I'll have a look for Hugh and Agnes tomorrow, if you've not got any more info,  but I'd like to sign out of serious looking for the evening  :)

Thanks ev and JL, yes I must admit I do keep forgetting to search on the IGI, I always seem to go straight to SP!

Ok, I will retire for the evening now, the wine has gone to my head!! ;D

Thank you both for your help,

Elaine.

P.S.  Ev - you must be as daft as me then getting a Beagle ;D  No seriously they are lovely natured dogs but they do have some disgusting habits!!  I won't go into detail especially just after tea ::)  My two girls are called Bella and Blossom :)

P.P.S  I found James Harris had gone to Australia - so another connection with down under for me!!
