Robert Gale of North Poorton
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 15:30 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

We are looking for some help on Robert Gale.

North Poorton regs
Robert GALE/Elizabeth are shown as being parents of Simon (7 Nov 1762), John (7 Mar 1764), Richard (15 Sept 1765), Thomas (30 Nov 1766).

We would like to find out: (i) A Robert/Elizabeth marriage in that part of Dorset, if so date and her surname; (ii) if Robert was bp at North Poorton, the date and parents; (iii) if (ii) found, then marriage of parents and mother's maiden name, please. {We only have access to transcripts of Bishop's Transcripts, not registers, there is often a big difference, and these don't go back far enough, anyway.} [To establish whether the N. Poorton Robert originated from there or was an incomer - possibly the John bp 1709, Powerstock, who reputedly married 5 Oct 1761, at Winterborne St Martin (Dorset), Elizabeth Lovelace, as claimed by another researcher.]

Thank you

Trudy

Have found a Robert Gale marrying Elizabeth ? at Powerstock, Dorset around 1757
There is also a Robert Gale marrying Ann ? at Powerstock 1731

Robert Gale born 1733 of Powerstock with West Milton, Dorset (as written on the site)
Robert Gale born 1734 of Hilton, Dorset.
Also a Robert Gale christened 7 Nov 1756 Powerstock parents Robert and Elizabeth.
Robert Gale born about 1766 Powerstock

Few dates to ponder on!

John Gale born about 1706 Powerstock married Joan Hallet (born about 1710 Powerstock)  on 5 Dec 1731 Powerstock, Dorset.

We think that the Robert Gale who married Elizabeth Greening in Powerstock is a separate family as this Robert and Elizabeth had their children in Powerstock.  We could not find the Robert Gale born in 1734 of Hilton, Dorset, he does not appear in the Bishops Transcripts.  We are curious where you found him.  The Robert Gale's born in 1756 and 1766 would be to young to be our Robert.

We had read that Robert Gale about 1735 married Elizabeth Lovelace B 31 Aug 1737 in Winterborne St Martin and married her 5 Oct 1761 at Winterborne St Martin but we have been unable to verify this.

We had a query that John Gale and Joan Hallett is Robert Gales parent and John parents are Hugh and Elizabeth, but are still working on this.

Thank you for your help

Hi Trudy, so many times there are families with same names in a small place that are unconnected - I know from my own family!
And they had a such a small range of christian names that the same ones crop up all the time so makes it difficult to tie them together with certainty. I have been doing some transcribing for the late 1700/early 1800s and it makes you realise how few names were used.

All the Gale one's I found were on the familysearch.org website.
