Interests: White's of Scarborough
« on: Sunday 17 April 05 23:37 BST (UK) »
Yes, I know its such a common name!! It makes for great fun researching it.

I am tracing the family of William White, Taylor and bootmaker.
Born 1846, in 1920's. Father Thomas White, mother jane Merry.
His wife was Maria Hayes and they had 10 children.
I am descended from their son Arthur. At one time they lived in Cambridge Street, Scarborough.

If any one has an interest in the family I would love to hear from them. I have lots of information on my side of the family that I would be glad to share

Hi June

Do you have their details from the 1851 census?

Best wishes

No I dont have them in the 1851. I know that William would have been at home with his mother and father and he had two sisters Hannah and Isabella but I dont know the address they were at in 1851.

The earliest census I have them in is the 1871. I did try to find Thomas in the 1841 or Thomas father, also a William but I could not find them as a lot of the Scarborough images were very hard to read.

I would love to know the details but have not had access to it.

Hi June

I have a copy of the 1851 index but not the actual records.  However I can get to these at Scarborough Library if any of them look promising.

I have William White aged 4 born Scarborough. Other people recorded on the same Folio (so probably at the same address) are
Willam White aged 69 born Habton
Jane White aged 29 born Scarborough
Hannah White aged 9 born Scarborough

There is a Thomas White but not at the same address.

Thomas White aged 70 born Scarborough

If you want the actual records looking up just let me know!  ;D

Best wishes

Hi Ticker

Thant is great!!! It certainly is them. The William 69 is Thomas's father. It have been that Thomas was away working at the time of the census as he was a stonemason. I know he did work away eg doing some work on Flamborough light.

I really appreciate you taking the time to look it up. Thank you!!! If ever you want anything in Hampshire let me know.
