There is a site (here?) with monumental inscriptions from many of the Herefordshire graveyards.
Llangarren is a big graveyard redmike, but ste in beautiful countryside.

Hello.

Didnt get to the church but did get to Hereford records office.Found 2 James Jones's in Llangarren at the time. 1st would have been 17 at the time of the marriage with Martha being 19, so he was Discounted. 2nd one would be 23, so we opted for him. On looking into the parish records we found a James Jones born 1814. Im 100% that this is my ancestor. Only problem was that it said James - Baseborn - Mother - Mary Jones.

Tried looking into the records for Mary Jones but couldnt make anything out. Not sure where we go from here.

Cheers Darren

Hiya all,

Iv been looking into James and Mary the last few days, im sure James and Mary are mine now. In 1820 Mary Jones married a John Probert in Llangarren. James would be 6. either John is James's father on not? Either way i think James kept his mothers maiden name which has passed down for almost 200 years to my son who is the youngest Jones in my branch.

Marys parents seem to be John Jones c1749 and Hanna Maxfield who married in Llangarren in 1779.

Was wondering do most other people when following their tree, have to take a leap of faith like this at some point? or should you just stop when you cant find 100% proof that the person you are following are related?

Cheers Darren

Darren

I visited the church today but it was raining heavy & I was inbetween business calls so didnt have time for a good look but did find one "Jones" grave but possibly not your family.

John Jones died 01.06.1811 age 52
Anthoney (son) died 06.07.1835 age 26
Ann (wife of John) died 1837.

Didnt have any luck with any of mine though  :(
