Nope-only a child, Lena Mary born Smethwick Dec 6th 1916.

'Ang on,there's 29 pages of service records  ;D

It does say he was born in Southampton though.

Some list siblings don't they- what a shame he'd married by the time he joined up.

Eureka !!!!

Whaddya think of this girls?

A family with the surname of Church in 1901 that fits.........mum is Mary A born in Reading and dad is George H.Living in Kings Norton.

Even 3 year old Mabel G is there too- and the older daughter(Ethel M) who is not around in 1911.

RG13/ 2806 folio 115 page 32.

I knew that George had so many christian names for a reason  ;D

Now, next question -- when did George die? After young Eric's conception -- or before? Because we still don't know why Eric gave his father's name as Frank!

The Marylebone one was christened at St Marks Marylebone 23rd March 1905 together with a Stanley Gates - mothers name Ethel Gates, no fathers name given.

Rosie

Hi all, thank you all for your help. Have a bit more information now - the details quoted above are correct. He was born in Birmingham and had a twin called Stanley, who died at end of 1905. Although born in Birmingham, the mothers address (Ethel Mary) was given as Birmingham. Apparently from other relatives I have heard he was adopted - he was given to his grandmother when his twin died. Trying to find out more info on the mother but not sure if Gates was her maiden name or married name.
