As he was born before the 1881 census - have you checked for him there

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

Do you have a copy of the 1912 marriage cert which will (hopefully) show his fathers name and occupation

There are quite a few possible 1881 entries - particularly if he wasn't born in Berks -so it is wiser to wait until the cert arrives and then you can see if a match can be found on the 1881

If the marriage cert confirms his father as Philip - great - you can take it from there

Hi Jenny53,

The Berks Burial Index (ex BFHS) lists;
14-4-1925  SCRIVENER, John (48)  abode, Little Hungerford, Buried Holy Trinity, Hermitage, Berks

Could this be the person you're looking for?

Hello Alan
yes this is my grandfather..

i know very little about him or his family, as my mum would never talk
about her family. I did meet her sisters and brother.. there was a very cold feel
from the family..

I was forbidden to find out about them to after her death..which I did keep to
but It makes it hard now to find out much

there are no photos of her family anywhere..and I can not remember seeing any ever
thanks for the help..
