Yorks place called "Kirkely Wish"?
« on: Friday 11 February 11 06:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi - didn't know which Yorks thread to put this in so decide to be more general.

I have a reference to a fellow, "Richard Carter" son of Thomas, who died in America in early 1700s.  Supposedly born in mid-1600s and then emigrated.  The citation (unfortunately no citation given" says he was from "Kirkly Wish, York, England".  I changed the spelling slightly in my subject line since it makes more sense.  I have only heard of Kirklees, named after Kirklees Priory, I suppose.  Any ideas?

According to Genuki there is a Kirby Wiske in North Riding.
