Dear LaMimardiere,
Apologies for not replying sooner but I did not receive a notification about your post. Thank you so much for this information and I will definitely follow up! How amazing that your family owned the farm and your reply goes to show how important these websites are.

I know from research that around 98% of those with the name Cacouault, were from Deux-Saivres. I haven't been able to research further back than Pierre and Catherine so far, but my research took me off in a different direction. I studied for a history degree and then an MPhil at the University of Cambridge. I intend to follow up with a PhD once my children are at university. The focus of my research was Huguenot educators. I wanted to focus on females but was not able to find the records for my dissertation, however, I have an academic paper in preparation that I hope to complete and submit for publication later this year. My Huguenot and Harcourt ancestry contained lots of educators and my dissertation was entitled, 'Education and the Shaping of Huguenot Education in England, c.1685-c.1725'. It is available to view/read for free on Academia.Edu (

I have recently undertaken a genealogy course and both that and my history research have taught me that it is important to understand individuals in the time in which they lived. In terms of family research, I have built up a picture of my ancestors and located them in the time in which they live through archive records, newspapers, and knowledge of the time/place in which they lived. Their friends and associates are also important. jules31red, please do get in touch. My mum died in early 2020 thankfully before Covid hit and dad has deteriorated quite a lot but is hanging on in there aged 87. Those Huguenot genes I guess. He is sorry that he lost touch with your family. He mellowed a lot in old age.
Thanks again, LaMimardiere.
