George Brown
« on: Sunday 13 February 11 18:54 GMT (UK) »
I have a George Brown in my family tree, he married my Great x2 Grandmother after she became widowed.  George Brown married Maria Austin b1831/2 Varteg, Wales on 11 August 1874at Llanhileth, Wales.  The marriage certificate gives his occupation as Fireman, and his father as Elijah Brown farmer.  On the census:
1881 - born 1841 Linton, 1891 Census - 1840 Newent, and 1901 Census: 1843 Asteringham (Aston Ingham?)
Where ever I try to locate this George Brown, I cannot find out who his parents were? or his siblings.  George Brown born March quarter of 1849 Newent, but really dont know if this is him. I am also (I know pushing my luck) but trying to find out who is first wife was, and when she died. Can anyone help?
This has taken my months of head banging, please help!
regards Trish

There's no sign of George or Elijah that matches in the parish records here - http://www.forest-of-dean.net/

But there is a George Brown born 1836 Churcham father Elijah mother Mary  Churcham isn't too far away from Aston Ingham, Newent, Linton.  maybe they lived at these places when George was young

Elijah is recorded as Elizah
1851 Singleton, Sandhurst, outside Gloucester
Elijah Brown  45 farmer 56 acres, born Upton ?
Mary age 36 born Over, Gloucester (not far from Sandhurst)
George age 14
Henry 13
Susan 8
Jane 5

this is as close as I can get

Hi I am a little confused, the George Brown you have found bp 22 May 1836 in Churcham, with his siblings all bp in Churcham Henry 1838, Susannah 1842, Jane 1845, Thomas Butt 1844.
I have found this family on the census for 1881 at Cottage farm, Hanley Castle, Worcs.
However 'my' George Brown on the 1881 Census Aberstruth Monmouthshire with his wife Maria and step children.
This First George Brown therefore cannot be mine.  Blimey, still going to be hitting my head against a brick wall, can ever this man be found!  My George Brown was born around 1831 Linton/Newent area of Herefordshire.

regards trish

Almost Trish ;D  back to the drawing board.  I'm wondering if he was baptised a bit further into Herefordshire to be missed by the Forest records?

This George Brown born 1841 Linton(1881 Census) or 1840 Newent (1891 Census) or Aster Ingham 1843 (1901 Census), is proving to be very elusive.  All I know is that his father was Elijah and that George was married before he married my Great great Grandmother Maria Austin nee Pugh in 1874 Llanhileth.  His occupation was a Collier/Fireman.  What I am looking for is his birth between 1840-1843 in Herefordshire, can anyone help? regards Trish
