thanks for your understanding .
as to your finding about edward in the 1891 cen that is great news , and i can add to that that i,ve found him in the 1901 cen and the 1911 cen in both he is an inmate in the workhouse .

have just looked in the workhouse site and in one of the hereford workhouses in weobley found these 2 people a charles caldwell age 16 born holmlacey
and harriett caldwell age 47 formerly a domestic serv from bodenham these are in the 1881 cen

How sad that Edward ended up in the workhouse. I've had a look around to see when he may have died but there's no reference to him dying in Herefordshire (unless the document is missing, the name has been wrongly spelt...).

Trevor can you please transcribe the 1901 and 1911 census entry where he figures in the workhouse? I'd like to confirm he's born in Hope under Dinmore and on the right year.

As for Charles and Harriett, they certainly don't ring any bells. I don't think they are Edward's son and wife since he is listed as being 56 and single in 1881... I cannot say more, maybe they were related but through one of his brothers, I don't know...
