MAWBEY J S  departed Melbourne on the KUNAJIRI MARU and arrived in Sydney, NSW on 1 Mar 1920.  A cargo ship..Japanese crew and either three non Japanese passengers or crew including J S MAWBEY.

Arrival in Sydney

Built as the APOLLO

I notice that he calls himself Jack Stanford MAWBEY in the electoral roll.  If it is him he may have stayed in Sydney however there is a Jack MAWBEY in NSW but not your man.

Thanks very much for this intriguing additional information.

It occurred to me that some of the MAWBEYs may have served in World War II, and I have now found three of Dillon's four sons in the National Archives site, including the youngest one: Harry Clive MAWBEY who was born in 1922!

I really appreciate all your help with this; it has helped me to put together a really interesting and much more complete view of this family.

Kind regards

Phil Candy

Just this morning I came across a 1925 obituary for J S MAWBEY's father, which ends with these words: "Mr. Mawbey leaves a wife, two sons, and two daughters. One of the sons is Mr. John Mawbey, who- was a noted amateur cross-country rider a few yearsFix this text ago, and is now in the Indian horse trade."

So perhaps Jack was overseas a lot of the time; indeed, he may have died in India.

Kind regards

Phil

McCracken Street Kensington
different house numbers listed
Frances Hannah MAWBEY @ no 6 home duties
Henry MAWBEY @ no 2 auctioneer
Jack Stanford MAWBEY @ no 2 horse exporter

I wonder if Jack continued in the stock and station trade in Aus.  MAWBEY name prominent at the Newmarket saleyards well after Henry's death.

Cheers :)

This is extraordinary; many thanks for persisting with this inquiry, and congratulations for making this wonderful discovery.

I can now complete this particular family with the deaths of this couple; thank you so much for an inspried bit of detective work.

Kind regards

Phil
