Hi Sancti
Marriage cert gives "Dynamite Worker" both father and son.
I have no prook as to the Irishness of the Wylies. only that I have a family of Brown/Wylie in Londonderry who received this card, Can,t find a wedding for them in Ireland too date ,but all family born in Ireland according to 1901 Irish Census. Approx wedding date around 1876.
I suspect that John Wylie could be abrother to Margaret Jane Wylie who married John Brown.
On a birth cert from New Zealand for one of their sons the spelling is different "Wyley" ,just to confuse things
Thanks
Curley

From IGI, to parents John Wylie and Margaret Dowdell:

1. Ellen Jane Wiley b. 28 AUG 1872 Magherafelt, Londonderry
2. Catherine Wiley b. 10 APR 1874 Londonderry
3. Thomas Wiley b. 27 AUG 1875 Londonderry
4.  Margaret Jane Wyley b. 03 MAY 1877 Magherafelt, Londonderry

Could this be the connection as you think to Londonderry?

Hi Monica

Yes that looks like our Thomas whose marriage and death we have recorded.
Yes This makes me feel more confident that John Wylie is a brother to Margaret Jane Wyley, my missing link, and this Margaret Jane born 3 May 1877 was called after her.
ELAINE I think your wedding is alittle bit early.
Now looking for two marriages in possibly Londonderry,
John Brown- Margaret Jane Wyley about 1876 and
John Wylie - Margaret Dowdell about 1870
Many thanks all

Curley, found this possible marriage entry for the Wylie/Dowdell marriage

Margaret Dowdall, marriage in 1871 (no specific date) in Magherafelt, Derry - Vol. 6, Pg. 853. Same references for a John WILEY.

Not sure how this fits with your expected c. 1876 marriage date for the Brown/Wylie marriage:

Margaret Jane Wiley, 4th Qrt 1879 in Londonderry - Vol. 2, Pg. 185. Same references for a John Brown.

Hi Monica
great stuff.
I moved onto the Londonderry forum this morning and Kingerswell sent me confirmation of the Wylie/Dowdell marriage you found, its 20 June 1871 in Magherafelt Church of Ireland.
I will post your refenences for the Brown/Wylie marriage which I think is the correct one going by childrens birth dates.
Many thanks again
