SOLDIER IN DENMARK
« on: Wednesday 16 February 11 10:32 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me anything about the uniform of this soldier? For example, rank, date, medal, etc.
This is my 2xgreat grandfather with his wife. I believe he was born in Sweden but lived in Elsinore Denmark afrom about 1845 or earlier. I am looking for any clues which might tell me more about him. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi belfordian

An old post here...

If you give me his name and wife's name and some birth dates etc, I can then see if I can dig something up.

A welcome surprise to see your message after all this time! His name is either Ola Nielsen or Nils Olsen ( have seen it as both so his son might have been trying to translate it into the Traditional English format). I don't know his date of birth but his wife was either Ane Katrine Andersen or Bendtsdattur ( same problem) born  1822 at Bloustrod / Avderod, Frederiksborg, Denmark. He looks about the same age as she does on the photo I have. Spellings are nearest estimate. Will be grateful for any info you can give me.

Hi again

I will see what I can dig up.
I would like to know though why you think he came from Sweden and also, who was his son and where did he settle.

His son was Lars Peter Nielsen born 1850 at Tikob/Tipperup, my grt grandfather, who became a mariner and settled in England. On his English marriage cert he gives his father as Ola Nielsen but would it not really be Niels Olsen following Danish tradition? Or had that tradition died out by then? I have seen somewhere that his father came from Sweden but can,t remember where.....I think it may have been a Danish genealogical source......however, I believe Lars may have had a stepfather and perhaps the man in uniform is his stepfather.  I have inherited several photos of Danish ancestors but not all named. The man in photo is identical to one  photographed with Lars,s mother.

Thanks for that.

It sounds as though you have this but I needed to locate the family first.

According to Lars' birth record he was born Lars Petter Nielsen on 4 May 1850 and baptised 15 Sept 1850. The parent's names on the record are Nils Olsen and Ane Cathrine Bendsdatter.

What records do you have?
I have found Lars' parents marriage record too.
