1841 and 1851 Census Joseph Ainley *COMPLETE*
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 05:15 GMT (UK) »
Looking for Joseph Ainley b. abt. 1809 Barkisland.  I have found him in 1861 in Soyland.  He was married to Anne Barret 1807-1850.  They were married in 1832 at St. Mary's Elland.  I am trying to find Joseph's parents. Joseph and Anne had the following children:
 Edwin Ainley
1832 – 1896 Shelbyville, Il, USA (My GGGrandfather)
 Rebecca Ainley
          1834 –
 Emma Ainley
          1837 –
Sidney Ainley
          1840 –
John Ainley
          1842 –
Jane Ann Ainley
          1850 – 1884
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Is there a cd  of the St. Mary's Elland Parish Records available?

Thanks in advance, Steve Ainley Frankfort, Il USA

Hello Steve and welcome to Rootschat.

Calderdale FHS has a CD for St Mary's Church in Elland.

www.cfhsweb.co.uk/ and click on publications.

There is only one baptism of a Joseph Ainley at St Mary's in your time frame; this being on 16 Aug 1807 with is parents given as Samuel Ainley and Ruth. It also gives his birth date as 30 Jul 1807. However, it gives their abode as Elland not Barkisland.

The marriage of Joseph Ainley and Ann Barret at St Mary's on 27 Aug 1832. Both 'of this parish' and both made their mark. The witnesses were Joah Brearley and Amos Crowther.

Do you have confirmation of Ann's maiden name; from the birth certificate of one of their children for example? I ask as there is also the marriage of a Joseph Ainley to an Ann Crowther on 20 May 1832.

It seems Joseph and Ann did not have their children baptised at St Mary's. There are no records for the baptism of an Edwin, Rebecca or Emma Ainley on the CD.

Thanks to everybody for the help and quick response.  I do have confirmation that Anne's maiden name was Barret.  I found  baptism records in the Parish Of Halifax, Chapel of Rippendon.  I hope this information helps.  Thanks again for your help.  Steve
